COVID-19 and Sitka WhaleFest 2020

ByWhalefestMarch 27, 2020

Dear Sitka WhaleFest Friends,

At this point everyone has been affected by COVID-19 in some way, and Sitka WhaleFest is not immune to that. We recently had to cancel the Food Web Cruise, our annual fundraiser for Sitka WhaleFest. While we are deeply saddened, we are hopeful that if we all do our part we will be able to celebrate together again sooner rather than later.

Although WhaleFest does not start until November 5th there is a lot of work that goes into it prior to the actual event. The staff at Sitka Sound Science Center and the Sitka WhaleFest team want you to know that while we understand there are many uncertainties at this time, we are still currently moving forward with planning our beloved Sitka WhaleFest.

We are hopeful that the festival will be able run in the same format that you have enjoyed for so many years. However, we realize that for reasons beyond our control we may need to adapt. We will keep you informed as things evolve. Until then we look forward to science and innovation guiding us as we navigate this pandemic. Wash your hands, practice social distancing, and thank the healthcare workers in your life for all they are doing to keep us safe.

We appreciate your continued support of Sitka WhaleFest and look forward to seeing you November 5th – 8th in Sitka!

Sincerely,

The Sitka WhaleFest Team
