Ways of Knowing: Community Connections with Sea Otters and Abalone

About the Speaker

Taylor White, PhD (she/her), is a non-Native settler descendant and lifelong Sheetʼká (Sitka), Alaska inhabitant. As a community ecologist, she weaves together knowledge systems to explore how species and people interact across changing marine environments, with the aim of supporting equitable management strategies for evolving community relationships with nearshore species and ecosystems. Her dissertation research in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UC Santa Cruz, alongside collaborative community work, examined the dynamics between abalone, sea otters, and coastal communities across Lingít Aaní and Traditional Haida Territories.
